Set Goals For Your Music Career

Set Goals For Your Music Career blog post

One thing that I see a lot of artists do is have very ambitious and vague goals.  Then falling into the trap of doing everything but not having a clear direction of what they want to achieve.

Let’s change that.

Here are 4 steps to having effective and achievable goals in your music career

  1. Make a list

The first step to setting any goal is to take a glance at what you want to achieve in your future. Most important is to write down everything you want to achieve, don’t just hold it in your head, write everything down and be as specific as possible.

  2. Break it down

Once you wrote everything down. Look into each goal and try to break it down into even smaller achievable steps.

    Work backwards from big goals.

Let’s say your goal is to play regular live shows, to play regular shows you have to start with small shows (if you’ve never played live before), to have live shows you have to release music and build a fan base that will come to those shows, then divide these goals into even smaller ones

  3. Set aside time

Your goals won’t happen unless you put in the work. Now that you have a plan. Set aside a time each day to work on your goals. Make sure you have small achievable goals that lead to bigger ones (as we’ve discussed in step 2 )

  4.  Get Help

Realize that you won’t be able to do everything. If you’re not good at graphic design it would be much more efficient to hire a graphic designer to do your logo/graphics than to learn to do it yourself. If you need help with songwriting or music production reach out to other songwriters and producers. That’s how you  start to build a team around yourself
